Cast plate and wrought 5000-series alloys
The 5000 cast plate selection here is distinct from wrought 5052, 5083 and 5086 products. The catalog family name does not establish certification to one of those wrought grades or its H temper.
In wrought 5000-series alloys, magnesium and work hardening provide strength. H32, H116 and H321 identify different material conditions; the exact alloy and temper belong in the drawing and material certification.
Matching the material to the application
Wrought 5052 is commonly associated with formed panels and enclosures; 5083 and 5086 with marine and transport fabrication. These broader family examples do not identify the grades supplied by the cast plate selection.
For cast plate used in fixtures or tooling, confirm the producer’s specification, surface condition and dimensional requirements. Sharp tooling and effective chip evacuation help machining.
Saw cuts and machining allowance
Our standard saw-cut tolerance is +1/8″ / −0″ on cut length and width. Allow material for facing and finish machining. A different tolerance agreed on your order takes precedence.
Plate thickness, flatness and surface condition follow the supplied mill or producer specification. Full mill-stock pieces ship uncut and retain mill tolerances.
