Choosing a temper
6061 combines moderate strength, corrosion resistance and machinability for general structural parts, fixtures and housings. Stress-relieved plate tempers are stretched after heat treatment to reduce residual stress before machining.
6061-T651 aluminum plate is stress relieved by stretching; AMS 4027 covers T651 plate. Extruded 6061-T6511 bar is a different product form. Match the drawing’s temper and specification when choosing material.
Machining and applications

Our standard saw-cut tolerance is +1/8″ / −0″ on cut length and width. Allow material for facing and finish machining. A different tolerance agreed on your order takes precedence.
Plate thickness, flatness and surface condition follow the supplied mill or producer specification. Full mill-stock pieces ship uncut and retain mill tolerances.

What is 6061-T651 aluminum plate used for?
General-purpose machined parts: brackets, mounting plates, housings, fixtures, jigs, mold bases, marine hardware and general industrial work. Typical T651 properties are 45 ksi tensile, 40 ksi yield, 12% elongation and 95 HB, with a density of 0.0975 lb/in³.
Is 6061-T651 the same as 6061-T6?
6061-T651 is 6061-T6 plate that has also been stress-relieved by stretching, which limits warping as you machine it.
What specifications does your 6061 plate meet?
6061-T651 plate is supplied to ASTM B209, AMS 4027, AMS-QQ-A-250/11 and ASME SB-209. Full mill certs with heat/lot traceability ship with every order, and a 6061-T651 example certificate is linked on this page.

What tolerance do you cut 6061 plate to?
Standard saw-cut tolerance is −0 / +1/8″ on length and width, so pieces arrive slightly oversize for machining to finished size. Tighter is available on request.
