Estimating high-strength 7075 stock accurately
7075 is selected for highly loaded aerospace, defense, motorsport, and performance-machining parts. Its zinc-rich chemistry makes it slightly denser than 6061, so substituting a generic aluminum density can understate weight across a large plate or production batch.
The calculator is valid for T651, T7351, and other 7075 tempers because temper affects mechanical properties and stress-corrosion behavior, while the part volume and alloy chemistry determine weight.
Weight formulas used by this calculator
Plate and block
weight = thickness x width x length x density
Use one unit system for all three dimensions. Quantity multiplies the solid weight after the single-piece volume is calculated.
Round bar and solid rod
weight = pi x (diameter / 2)^2 x length x density
Diameter is the full outside dimension of solid bar. Tube and bored stock need the hollow internal volume subtracted.
Where a 7075 weight estimate helps
- Checking airframe and vehicle component mass budgets
- Estimating inbound weight for thick aerospace plate
- Planning safe handling for high-value machining blanks
- Comparing 7075 and 6061 stock weights at identical dimensions

Frequently asked questions
What density is used for 7075 aluminum?
The calculator uses 0.1015 lb/in3, or approximately 2.81 g/cm3.
Is 7075 heavier than 6061?
Yes. At identical dimensions, 7075 is about four percent heavier than 6061 because 7075 has a higher density.
Do 7075-T651 and 7075-T7351 have different calculated weights?
No meaningful adjustment is needed for estimating. Both use the same 7075 alloy density in this calculator.
How is 7075 round bar weight calculated?
The calculator finds cylinder volume with pi times radius squared times length, then multiplies that volume by 0.1015 lb/in3.
