Choosing T651 or T7351
7075 is used when high strength relative to weight is a priority. T651 is a stress-relieved plate temper. T7351 adds overaging to improve resistance to stress corrosion cracking, with a reduction in strength compared with the peak-aged condition.
Service environment, loading direction and the drawing determine the appropriate temper. A typical strength value alone does not establish an acceptable substitution.
Machining and applications
Sharp carbide tooling, chip evacuation and coolant are useful for heavy cuts. Stress-relief stretching reduces residual stress, while the machining sequence and workholding still influence movement. Conventional structural MIG or TIG welding is generally unsuitable.

Specification references
AMS 4045 is a 7075-T651 plate reference; AMS 4078 covers 7075-T73 sheet and T7351 plate. AMS-QQ-A-250/12 and ASTM B209 are additional sheet and plate references. Confirm the temper, thickness scope, revision and mill certification required by the drawing.
